The consortium structure of LIFE-INOFEED has been designed to combine operational expertise, technological know-how, and scientific validation, ensuring both the effective implementation of the project and the strategic exploitation of its results.
Specifically, the consortium includes:

• Three Greek companies, responsible for key roles in the development, construction, and operation of the technological solutions, as well as for the industrial application and commercial exploitation of the produced feed materials. Their participation ensures real-market deployment and practical validation of the system.

• One research institution, which provides scientific support, develops and validates processing methodologies, conducts nutritional and quality analyses, and performs environmental and techno-economic assessments (e.g., LCA, performance evaluation).

• One Belgian company, contributing to the project’s transnational dimension by supporting knowledge transfer, dissemination activities, and the replication and scaling-up strategy at the European level.
The consortium is characterized by strong role complementarity, close research to industry integration, and a clear orientation towards to technological maturity, market uptake, and long-term scalability.

TMS is a Spin-off company developed in 2011, aiming to provide mainly research and secondary consulting services, related to the environmental and health sectors. Innovation, as a commercially successful new product or process, is the core of the TMS business model. This is achieved by, a) operating as a bridge between industry and research institutes, b) by realizing research projects that require a more realistic and industrial approach, and c) been directly involved in innovative business ventures. Key issues in successfully achieving the above, is the close cooperation with both research and higher education institutes and the relevant industry, without barriers or prejudices.

HMU is the largest higher education institution on the Island of Crete, Greece, operating in 6 different campuses, with over 18,000 students and 1,000 staff members. The Special Account of Research Funds (ELKE-HMU), which is the body responsible for the management of research activities, has invested over 15 M€ in infrastructure during the past 10 years and has managed funding of over 40 M€ during the past 5 years.

The Laboratory of Natural Resources Management and Agricultural Engineering (NRMAE) of the Department of Agriculture of HMU is directed by Professor T. Manios. Since his appointment as head of the laboratory in 2005, NRMAE has implemented over 50 research projects with a total funding of more than 12 M€, including 4 Life / Life+, 1 FP7, 1 Horizon, 5 EEA Grants, 4 Interreg, 1 Urban Innovation Actions, 12 National from the Greek Secretary for Research and Technology (as partner), 5 from GSRT as Subcontractor to SME, 4 from Municipalities and Regions and numerous from private companies. As a result of these projects, NRMAE has a joint record of over 150 publications with over 4,000 citations in the wider field of agricultural science and applications. NRMAE currently occupies 2 post-docs, 3 PhD candidates, 4 graduate students and 3 technicians.

Bioresearch Laboratories SA was founded in 2002 in Heraklion, Crete, Greece by a team of scientists. BIOLAB has fourteen full-time staff members, an annual turnover of 900,000 € and more than 500 customers throughout Greece, providing consulting services and laboratory analyses. Core clientele include, companies and individuals that operate throughout the majority of the food chain (from agriculture to catering services / From farm to fork) as well as other manufacturing industries. Of the laboratory analyses/ techniques provided (ISO, AFNOR, FDA, ELOT, AOAC, etc.) more than 70 are within the accreditation scope (ISO17045:2017) and the company is certified for the quality of its services with ISO9001:2015 and for the implemented environmental managements acts with ISO14001:2015. Consulting services include agronomic and veterinary expertise provided at multiple levels. These services cover farm management support, manufacturing processes—particularly for local products such as olive oil, grapes, honey, milk and dairy products, as well as a great variety of agricultural products—development of novel foods, and the design of production facilities. The company also assists with the development and implementation of product quality and safety management systems, as well as circular economy and environmental management systems. In addition, it provides guidance on legal and regulatory compliance for both products and production facilities, including regulatory reviews and legality checks. BIOLAB laboratories provide clients and partners with certified and reliable analysis that support the company’s advisory services on food safety and quality testing, HACCP-development environmental management advice and applied R&D services/activities. Their facilities also allow the company to actively collaborate in strategic research on future food security related issues. BIOLAB has a 300m² analytical lab facilities in Heraklion, with state-of-the-art chemical, microbiological and food quality testing equipment, sample storage rooms and offices, regulatory requirements for products and facilities, legality check etc.
ENVIROPLAN SA (ENV) is an independent private consulting firm, founded in Athens, Greece, considered as one of the leading companies in Environmental Management & Engineering Projects specializing in the Waste and Wastewater Management sector. The company provides integrated advisory, technical consulting, engineering & project management services in the fields of waste management, environment, climate change, industry, energy, technical and development projects, starting from the initial planning to the construction supervision. ENVs activities extended in many countries, including Greece, Cyprus, other EU countries, Turkey, MENA region, Balkans, Eastern Partnership countries, Kyrgyzstan, etc. ENVIROPLAN SA is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001: 2015, EN ISO 14001: 2015 and EN ISO 45001:2018 and holds an indefinite period of professional liability insurance.3 are the main pillars of the long-term strategy of ENV: a) retaining a leading position in the consultancy business related with waste management/environmental protection, b) expanding into owning (share-owning) and operating industrial units related with solid waste management, without however jeopardising its relationship with established in the field enterprises, and c) retaining a strong innovation activity, mainly as a tool for serving the first 2 pillars. As part of its secondary activities, ΕNV has been providing continuous engineering services also as a partner in consortiums operating waste management. ENV holds extensive experience also in submitting, organizing, managing and running research projects, funded by different EU schemes such as: UIA, HORIZON, LIFE Interreg, RIS3, as well as National Funded Research Projects, through the General Secretary for Research & Innovation (including the B2B project). Participating in research and innovative projects, either as a partner or as coordinating partners’ services, is also part of ENV’s activities. ENV is probably the largest consulting company on waste in Greece, with offices in another five countries in the Balkans and the Southeast Mediterranean. With clients like the World Investment Bank, the United Nations, the European Investment Bank, governments in more than 20 countries and local authorities in more than 200 municipalities, ENV employs more than 60 people and has a total turnover as a group of more than 5 million euros. ENV also has considerable experience in national and European research and innovation projects, developing it through extensive cooperation with Universities (as for example HMU and AUA) and other SMEs.

Inagro has a long history in the field of agricultural research: since its start in 1956, the number of research topics has continuously expanded, making Inagro the largest centre for applied agricultural research in Belgium, with 222 employees (52% male and 48% female). Today, Inagro focuses on agriculture and horticulture in the broadest sense, working across the entire value chain and its connections with nature, the environment and society.
As a knowledge partner and centre of expertise, Inagro carries out applied and practice-oriented scientific research for the professional sector and the agrifood complex, for the community, the provincial services and all policy levels. Our future-oriented strategy integrates food production, including functional food, animal feed, biofuel, fibers and bio-refining.

The Insect Research Center is a large pilot scale research infrastructure with six climate-controlled rooms. The research focuses on high quality primary production of the yellow mealworm and black soldier fly. The research topics include ideal and practical climatic conditions, the insect feed, emissions, strains selection and general rearing/breeding optimisation, Insect research center

Inagro’s Energy and Circular Economy department has extensive experience in energy measurement for both conventional and renewable energy sources, at small and large scales. These insights are actively applied through our energy advisory services, supporting farms in improving energy efficiency and sustainability.

In short, Inagro will evaluate the onsite solar drying unit under Belgian climate conditions and with local matrices. Inagro’s Energy and Circular Economy department will assess the unit’s energy efficiency and compare it with existing alternatives. In parallel, the Insect Research Centre will explore synergies with semi-industrial insect farming and evaluate the Manna insect farming units.
